Palestine In Chains is an illustrated story of survival, bravery, pain, and resilience. In this drawing, a woman sits cross-legged on the floor. She cries tears of barbed wire, symbolic of occupation and barricades. The shape of the motherland is seen as a continuation of her headdress. Her children, seen as small dark figures, form the outline of her very existence. They try to hold on to her essence as a mother, but they are nowhere near the motherland. This is symbolic of the refugee crisis and the displacement of millions of Palestinians worldwide today. Rivers of blood across the land are symbolic of the violence that mires the failed lines of partition and/or failed diplomatic solutions.
