Never forget

By Monica Isaac

Today I watched as a group of resolute Palestinian Children stood in front of Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in the Gaza Strip, to hold a press conference. They pled to us for medicine, food, water, and education, “We come now and shout and invite you to protect us.” Their strength was astounding, a testament to the undeniable nature of resiliency.  Yet the shame of this necessary moment penetrated. This nation has failed as a living, breathing body of people.

According to Al-Jazeera, Al-Shifa Hospital has served as shelter as Israeli air strikes have strategically bombed areas surrounding the hospital, pushing thousands of civilians into a central area.

If a society is indeed judged by how it treats the poor, the young, the sick, and the marginalized, this judgment will be scripted on the tombstones of the dead. America has shown itself as not only a nation that cannot protect the people but one without a moral conscience.

This is a moment of condemnation:

Every former and sitting US president.

Every second and moment that has gone by people in power heard the people’s cries and turned away.

Every time they manipulated us by conflating Zionism and Judaism to divide the people.

Every elected official who receives money from Israeli lobbyists: Over 25 different lobbyists totaling 14.8 million dollars to Democrats alone.

Every member of the ruling class who profits from military bombs, weapons, and tanks from Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and General Dynamics.

Every representative who said, “We will turn Gaza into a parking lot” on live television.

Every representative of the United Nations, and every member of the International Criminal Court who needs to bring war crime charges against the US, Israel, and its Allies under articles 6, 7,8, and 56.

Every false platitude that was handed to the American people via performative progressives.

Every time Bernie Sanders claimed to be an ally to workers and oppressed people around the world.

Every time we voted for “hope” and “change” the system handed us economic devastation and genocide.

Every time Mass corporate media spread lies and bias and allowed Israeli officials to boldly call Arabs and Palestinians “animals” on live broadcast television while condemning the Palestinian freedom and self-determination slogan “From the river to the sea.”

Every time Western Journalists were cowards and couldn’t open their mouths to utter Palestine.

Every time the ENTIRE WORLD demanded a ceasefire the Biden administration responded by allocating an additional 14.3 billion dollars to the racist, zionist state of Israel.

Every time we watched the US Border Patrol harass, cage, whip, and kill our Brothers and sisters from the global south.

Every time US officials regurgitated Nazi language and propaganda to carry out genocide in the Middle East.

Every time Governor Gretchen Whitmer placated to Black and Arab communities and then resolutely supported the genocide of Palestinians.

Every time they said “never again, never forget” and realized that didn’t apply to the reckoning of America’s colonialist legacy.

But WE will never forget this moment.

The largest Mass demonstration for Palestine in US History was on November 4, 2023. 300,000 people converged onto the streets of Washington D.C.  Every walk of life created a vibration that shook the ground beneath us and the air above us.

Every time they negated the existence of Palestinian lives, a new wave of conscious Americans was birthed.

Every time we see a Palestinian person run through rubble and white phosphorus to escape US sponsored bombs, you enrage a new generation ready to channel that into the change YOU will Never forget.

The people demand an end to the siege on Gaza, an end to all US funding to Israel, and an end to the occupation.

Ceasefire NOW!
