I am a Philadelphia-based intuitive, abstract, mixed-medium, assemblage and collage artist. My connection to Detroit is through my daughter’s birth and lineage. The riverway of her origin began in Detroit and flowed along the highway, as her newborn body/spirit traveled with my wife and me to our home in Philadelphia. I make art as part of a community of queer feminist abolitionists who actively work to end violence and sexual harm against children while imagining new modes of radical care and loving kinship. My art flows or erupts from an intuitive and liberating engagement with my material, embodied, spiritual, and political worlds. I assemble fragments, fibers, scraps, gifts from nature, and discarded objects, mending them into something beautiful. As a child, I collected shells, stones, crystals, and other small objects. My art enables me to sink back into my playful childlike self.
Making art is how I grieve. Making art is how I listen. Making art is how I heal. Making art is how I build beloved community.
