Saginaw community organizer/activist Cornelius Phelps was beaten by Michigan State Police at a traffic stop.  That evening on I-75, he ran afoul of “Official Rules.”  His friends at Counter Culture organized a benefit for him, and about twenty of these 5″ x 7″ variations on his portrait were sold to raise funds for his medical expenses.

Mike Mosher grew up in Ann Arbor, where he studied with Afrocentric muralist Jon Onye Lockard.  In California, he lived an adventurous life of art, community murals, newspapers, and 1980s computer graphics.  He moved back to Michigan in 2000 to attend to family matters, teaching until 2024 at Saginaw Valley State University.  Smith & Mosher’s George Orwell Illustrated is published by Haymarket Books.
